For Professionals
What SteadyMouse Does
SteadyMouse helps people with hand tremor, including essential tremor, Parkinson's disease, and multiple sclerosis, use a standard mouse on Windows. It removes shaking motion before it reaches the cursor, blocks accidental clicks, and can snap the cursor onto the icon or button the person is aiming for. It works with the mouse, trackball, or touchpad your client already has, and the Num Lock key turns it on or off at any time, which is handy on shared computers.
SteadyMouse has been helping people since 2005. It is featured in resources from Parkinson's UK, the International Essential Tremor Foundation, and the Job Accommodation Network, and it is authorized for use at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. See what others say.
Free Evaluation License
Occupational therapists, assistive technology specialists, clinicians, librarians, and IT staff evaluating SteadyMouse for others can request a free, full-featured evaluation license. Email support@steadymouse.com with your name, organization, and role.
Clients can then buy their own license with a 70-day money-back guarantee, so they can keep trying it at home with no risk. Purchase orders are welcome, and volume discounts are available on request for 5 or more licenses. See pricing.
Setting Up SteadyMouse with a Client
A few minutes of tuning makes the difference. These steps come from the filter tuning section of the user manual:
- Install and activate SteadyMouse (installation steps). The settings window opens automatically the first time it runs.
- Set the mouse speed low and the filter strength high (around 95%), so the cursor is slow but smooth.
- Try the "Feather", "Allegro", "Adagio", and "Classic" filter sets, and keep the snappiest one that still removes all of the tremor.
- Lower the filter strength until tremor starts to come through, then raise it slightly.
- Raise the mouse speed gradually, staying below 50%.
- If your client clicks by accident, turn on Ignore Accidental Clicks for those buttons. A hold time of 0.1 to 0.2 seconds works well for many people.
- Show your client the Num Lock on/off toggle, and how to reopen the settings by double clicking the desktop icon.
- Consider a large mouse pad, and try both a light and a weighted mouse.
Workplace and IT Requirements
For ADA accommodation requests and IT security reviews, the Enterprise & ADA Documentation covers security, data handling, offline activation, silent installation, and the VA Technical Reference Model listing. SteadyMouse runs on Windows 11 and earlier versions back to Windows XP. When a client works over Remote Desktop or Citrix, install SteadyMouse on the computer they sit at (details).
